Madden
Madden is a character who only appears in the terminal. He was Lord Bambi’s prophet and is currently residing (unwillingly) in the Void.
Appearance
Madden seems to be a human(oid) man. He has short, wavy black hair with a pair of wings, lime-colored eyes, dark skin, a green robe, black pants, and brown shoes. He has a golden eye symbol pinned to the robe over the right side of his chest and brown fabric tied around his midsection and sleeve cuffs. He has a pair of small lighter-brown wings situated on each side of his face.
Personality
Madden's most distinct characteristics are his reverence to his former god, Lord Bambi, and his fearfulness. In both log eye and artifact9, he pleads with an unknown listener that he is telling the truth about their lord's prophecy and to not hurt him for it. During a (dubiously canonical) QnA, Madden initially chastised an asker for disrespectfully referring to "the lord" by his name as a non-prophet, but quickly backtracks on this as likely being pointless when he's long since fallen from grace.[1] Considering that Madden exclusively refers to him as "(the) lord" and not "Lord Bambi" (artifact3.png, madden.png, open eye, and QnA), this suggests that this is a title either only permitted to be spoken in private, or Madden remains so respectful to his god that he never uses this personal name.
He cares for his loved ones deeply, begging to know if someone in contact with the outside world knows if Aliza and Jonathan are still alive.[2] He finds the Void to be dark and scary, and hates being in it.[3] He states it was foolish for him to write everything in the cypher rather than "normally", as someone possibly could've found him if he hadn't.[4]
Background
Although Madden does not appear in any of the game's songs, he is featured prominently in the terminal and its adjacent materials that flesh out his character considerably. An unknown amount of time ago, Madden was a prophet for Lord Bambi, who had a religious following. He was given a concerning message from his Lord that he would remove his eyes every day, which would cause him to become "less wise".[5] He would do this until he had only two eyes left.[6] Lord Bambi only told Madden that he had to do this lest there would be a "dark future".[7] This message upset the rest of the following, who refused to believe that Madden was telling the truth and arrested him for falsifying prophecies and causing mass panic.[8] Madden disappeared after being shot at (with a bow and arrow?), somehow winding up in the Void.[9] He has been there for at least 5 years, but has lost track of the time since then.[10]
Relationships
Most information about Madden's relationships with others is sourced from a QnA on Twitter, although the canonicity of the information revealed in it is nebulous.[11]
Madden references two characters named Jonathan and Aliza as people he once knew, who are likely worried sick for him if they're even still alive presently.[12][13] It's possible that Aliza is his mother and Jonathan his brother[14], but this has not been explicitly confirmed.
Numerous times Madden heavily alludes something he only calls "that thing" being in the void with him, which he doesn't want to talk or think about.[15][16][17][18] This "thing" is very likely to be Expunged considering the consistent motif of a being that is not directly named, and for being one of the few other beings known to reside in the Void.
Trivia

- Out of all the shapes in the Void, Madden prefers the spheres because he “can’t be prickled by the corner of a sphere”.[22]
- According to Madden, if he ever were to be in a trap, it would be “wherever he is now”.[6]
- Madden does not know much, if anything, about the Golden One in the prophecy.[23] This may mean he doesn't know that the Golden One is Tristan.
